Phoenix, Mich.-based DHT International announced Monday that it had secured the scalp hair transplant business license from the Michigan State Department of Health to operate in the state.
The hair transplant program in Michigan began in February and offers transplants of hair from a patient’s scalp to a patient of the same hair transplant.
The company has two locations in Phoenix, one located at the Medical Center of the University of Phoenix and another at the University Health Center at Detroit Mercy.
The company said it plans to expand the Phoenix operation to more locations in the future.DHT International has had a long history in hair transplants.
The company was the first in the country to conduct a scalp transplant, according to the company.
The company received approval from the state of Michigan to conduct scalp hair transplans in 2018, according, Dht International Chief Executive Officer, Kevin Smith.
The state said in 2017 that it would accept a list of transplant candidates from DHT, which included a variety of types of hair, including baldness.
In 2018, DTH International received approval to conduct the first scalp hair removal procedure in the United States, according Smith.
The Michigan transplant program, which started in February 2018, has seen a rise in transplants, said Smith.
In 2018 alone, the Michigan Department of Financial Institutions approved over 1,300 scalp hair transfusions.
The state of Minnesota is one of the first states in the nation to allow the scalp transplant business to operate, according a press release from DTH.
The license was issued in January 2019 and allows the company to operate.
DHT is currently accepting applications for scalp hair donors.
