Chest hair transplant and ant hair transplant treatments are among the treatments used to treat hair loss in people with cystic fibrosis, according to the American Heart Association.
The procedure, which involves taking a comb out of a patient’s chest and wrapping it around the affected area, was introduced by the medical society in 2000, and was approved by the Food and Drug Administration last year.
Anecdotal reports have shown it’s a popular treatment, as the procedure has been used for people with multiple cases of cystic Fibrosis.
Although the surgery has been shown to help a person’s hair grow back, the medical association says it has never had a patient with cystinuria or other medical problems report the procedure.
“Chest hair transplants and ant haptic transplantation are considered effective treatments in treating cystic hair loss, but no studies have been conducted to demonstrate that these procedures have improved the quality of the hair or reduced hair loss,” the association said in a statement.
It’s important to note that the chest hair transplant is not a total hair removal, according the association.
For example, it’s not possible to remove all of the cystic tissue from a patient and have it regrow hair again.
But the medical groups statement says that while the treatment may seem promising, the surgery needs to be followed closely, including any associated side effects.
